Matt Chittaranjan is a former economist and the co-founder and chief roaster of Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters.

When he moved to San Francisco to work as a finance consultant in 2003, the specialty coffee movement was taking off in the citadel of technology giants. He then moved back to India and saw that coffee was being mass-produced and mainly sold in the form of instant coffee powder.

Inspired by what he witnessed in Silicon Valley, he wanted to bring the authentic coffee experience to the Indian consumer and connect them directly to the farmer, a thought that soon became the brand's defining motto: “Farm-to-Cup.”

Today, Blue Tokai is India’s most renowned artisanal coffee brand with 51 cafes located across the country.
